Off-White x Air Jordan 5 “Sail”

After it was first teased in April, we’ve now been given a detailed look at Virgil Abloh‘s Off-White™ x Air Jordan 5 “Sail.” Following up February’s “Black Metallic”-esque AJ5 design that debuted at NBA All-Star Weekend, Abloh’s latest take on Michael Jordan‘s fifth signature shoe draws from the OG “Fire Red,” but adds deconstructed details and a potent patina for a bold, conceptual look.

Much like its predecessor, the “Sail” serves up a stripped-back upper that removes the puffy padding from the collar for a more trim look. This top half is built of a yellowed TPE-like material, a synthetic textile that simultaneously nods to the AJ5’s 30-year legacy and its future. As is par for the course with Abloh’s Jordan collaborations, the medial quarter is swathed in bold Helvetica text. Red “23” branding appears under this slim cocoon on the lateral half, and is also embroidered boldly on the reflective silver tongue. A black “Nike Air” hit appears under the heel, and “SHOELACES” is stamped on the ivory laces.

The familiar circular windows that provided the first pair’s signature detail return on the tongue, midfoot’s mesh netting and collar. With their ultra-thin build, these can easily be removed with an X-Acto knife for encouraged-yet-regimented customization. Black midsoles with red detailing are unaltered from the OG “Fire Red,” with yellowed outsoles and eyestays rounding off the look.

An official release date for the Off-White™ x Air Jordan 5 “Sail” has yet to be announced. However, early reports have pegged a holiday arrival on Nike SNKRS with a MSRP of $225 USD.
